Matt never knows what will be thrown at him at his job. Literally. He’s a correctional officer and deals with situations that would make most of us turn and run … but he has to run towards the danger, not away from it. Crossfit Dartmouth, and his 25-lb. weight loss, helps him do just that.
“I’ve noticed at work, when we respond to emergencies and have to run, we have keys, cuffs, a bunch of equipment on us, and I feel so much lighter. I’m the first guy there now,” he explained. “There’s a lot of downtime, but a lot of times you have to go from zero to 100 instantly, you have to be able to respond quickly and go from a rest to a sprint. I feel like I’m able to do that and recover and continue on with the day and not be exhausted or tired.”
Not only has CFD helped him better cope with work, it’s helped in all aspects of his life. “It’s improved my athletic ability. Everyday life is easier, such as walking around. I used to have aches and pains in my knees and joints,” he grinned. “I feel like, whether it’s pick-up sports or just a workout, I feel like I can do anything. I feel like I can do it well, whatever it is. I just feel more healthy and more athletic overall.”
Matt comes from a background of traditional weightlifting, which he has done for over a decade. Crossfit has made him a much more versatile athlete. “I had no cardio endurance whatsoever, so this is another whole world for me,” he said. “I’ve been able to feel better about myself. Crossfit lets me move faster, lose weight, and keep it off.”
At the end of the day, though, the transformation is a simple one: “I just feel great overall!”
